These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of Showcase Pix, the digital photo frame app for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV provided by Joe Chen (“Showcase Pix”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). On your Home Screen the app appears as “Showcase”. By installing or using Showcase Pix, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Showcase Pix is distributed through Apple’s App Store, and these Terms supplement the Apple Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. Mandatory App Store terms and mandatory consumer rights prevail in the event of a conflict.
1. What Showcase Pix does
Showcase Pix turns an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV into a digital photo frame. It displays photos from your photo library on iPhone and iPad, and from sources you configure, such as SMB shares, WebDAV servers, S3-compatible storage, Immich, MT Photos, RSS feeds, and GitHub or Gitee repositories. Showcase Pix does not provide, sell or transfer ownership of any photos or other media.
2. License to use the app
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to install and use Showcase Pix on Apple devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store usage rules, for lawful purposes. You may not copy, sell, sublicense, reverse engineer, circumvent technical restrictions, or redistribute the app except where applicable law expressly permits it.
Open-source components included in Showcase Pix remain governed by their respective open-source licenses. Those licenses take precedence for the relevant components.
3. Your photos and configured sources
You keep your rights in the photos and source configuration you provide. You are responsible for making sure you have the authorization needed to access, display, cache or otherwise use those photos, servers, accounts, feeds and credentials.
You must not use Showcase Pix to:
- access an account, server, collection or network without authorization;
- display, download, export, redistribute, sell or publicly perform content in violation of copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, contractual or other rights;
- remove or hide required creator credits, copyright notices or technical protection measures;
- scrape, mirror or bulk-download a third-party service contrary to its terms;
- display unlawful, abusive, exploitative or privacy-invasive content;
- interfere with the app, a provider’s API limits or security controls, or other people’s systems.
4. Third-party services
Showcase Pix works with services that you choose or that the app needs to function, such as your own servers and storage, RSS feeds, GitHub and Gitee, Open-Meteo for weather, Apple services, Supabase and Sentry. Product names, logos and data remain the property of their respective owners, and their terms, privacy policies, API limits and regional availability also apply to your use.
Third-party services can change, suspend or revoke access, charge fees or remove content at any time. We do not guarantee continued access to a specific service or item.
5. AI services you configure
Optional AI image summaries send photos to an AI service that you choose and configure with your own endpoint and API credentials. Showcase Pix does not operate, endorse or control that service. The app asks for your consent before the first photo is sent, and nothing is sent until you agree. You are responsible for:
- choosing a provider you trust and complying with its terms, usage policies, fees and regional restrictions;
- having the right to send each photo to that provider, including any consent required from people who appear in it;
- reviewing AI-generated descriptions, captions and tags before relying on or sharing them, because they may be inaccurate, incomplete or inappropriate.
Local face detection reduces, but does not eliminate, the chance that photos showing people are uploaded. Apple TV cannot detect faces, so if you turn face privacy off on Apple TV, photos are sent without a face check. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for how a third-party AI service processes, stores or uses photos sent to it, or for the content it generates. See the Privacy Policy for what is sent and how consent works.
6. Local network and remote connections
You control which local or remote servers Showcase Pix connects to. Use trusted servers, accurate addresses and appropriately scoped credentials. Unencrypted HTTP or legacy protocols can expose content and credentials to interception, so public internet servers should use HTTPS or another encrypted protocol.
7. iCloud Sync
If you turn on iCloud Sync, your source configurations, including the credentials they contain, are stored in your iCloud account and are subject to Apple’s iCloud terms. You are responsible for keeping your Apple Account secure. You can turn sync off and delete the synced data at any time in the app.
8. Optional diagnostics and feedback
Showcase Pix asks on first launch whether to enable optional usage analytics, device registration, feedback upload and crash reporting. They stay off unless you allow them, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings. Regardless of that choice, the app may keep a necessary pseudonymous Supabase session to retrieve protected service configuration. The information involved is described in the Privacy Policy. Turning collection off stops future optional collection but does not automatically erase records already received.
Feedback is voluntary. You allow us to use submitted feedback to support, maintain and improve Showcase Pix. This does not give us ownership of your photos or confidential materials. Do not submit secrets or third-party content that you are not authorized to share.
9. Updates and changes
We may update Showcase Pix to fix defects, improve security, maintain compatibility, comply with provider or App Store rules, or change features. A source or feature may be removed or disabled if its authorization, security, reliability or legal status cannot be maintained. Updates are distributed through the App Store and remain subject to its rules.
10. Copyright and rights complaints
If you believe content displayed through Showcase Pix infringes your copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity or other rights, contact us with:
- your name and contact information;
- identification of the protected work or right;
- information sufficient to locate the item, such as the source and content address;
- an explanation of the alleged infringement and your authority to submit the request.
For content hosted by a third party, you may also need to contact that provider directly.
11. Disclaimer
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Showcase Pix is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation, error-free playback, availability of third-party services, accuracy of photo metadata, weather or AI-generated text, or compatibility with every server.
Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable consumer law.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive losses arising from unavailable third-party services, loss of cached media, incorrect source configuration, your use of third-party content, or network or server security outside our reasonable control. Our liability is not limited where limitation is prohibited by law, including liability that cannot be excluded for fraud, wilful misconduct or certain personal injuries.
13. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Showcase Pix and delete it at any time. We may suspend a remote feature or terminate the license granted under these Terms if necessary to address unlawful use, security abuse, provider requirements or a material breach of these Terms. Provisions concerning intellectual property, third-party rights, disclaimers and liability survive termination where applicable.
14. Applicable law and changes
These Terms are subject to applicable law, including mandatory consumer and data-protection rules in your jurisdiction. Nothing in these Terms deprives you of rights that cannot be waived by contract.
We may update these Terms when the app, providers or legal requirements change. The current version and effective date are published at this address and linked from the app. If a material change requires renewed consent under applicable law, we will request it.
